” FILM INCENTIVES IN EUROPE “

Over the past years, most European countries have developed mechanisms to incite producers to come and shoot or post-produce their films in their respective territories. Generally, tax credits or other measures that aim to reimburse the producer for a part of the funds spent in the country are put in place. Which ones are the most beneficial to the producer? Is it necessary to have a local co-producer or a local partner ? Must the film pass a national culture test ? 90 minutes with a panel of speakers originating from several different European countries to constitute an assessment of this new European Eldorado.

Speakers: David Collins (Samson Films, Ireland), Titus Kreyenberg (Unafilm, Germany / ACE Producer) & Anthony Muir (Film I Väst, Sweden).

Moderator: Ronan Girre (ACE).

ON MONDAY 4th JULY, FROM 5pm TO 7pm, at the BNF - Bibliothèque Nationale de France - Site François Mitterrand (East Entrance to Auditoriums - Petit Auditorium).

ACE CO-PRODUCTION LAB AT THE FILMART

ACE held its first Co-production Lab in Hong Kong from the 20th to 24th of March last, in collaboration with the HAF and Filmart.

hk_2001_1

Four  intense days of very technical exchanges with producers, distributors and talent agencies from Hong Kong and mainland China, which were as fascinating for the European as for the Chinese participants. The Lab ended with two case studies of films that were co-financed by Europe and China: Pinoy Sunday , produced by Natacha Devillers and Chongqing Blues (Official Selection Cannes 2010), produced by Isabelle Glachant.

hk_2011_2

The Chinese market, which sees an annual 40% rise in the box office, attracts more ACE members every year. We hope that this event will be the beginning of a fruitful, long-term relationship with Chinese professionals.

ACE 20 FINANCING WORKSHOP IN POTSDAM

ACE celebrated the 20th anniversary of its training programme during the Financing Workshop of the ACE 20 Session, which took place in Potsdam (Germany) from the 17th to the 23rd of November 2010, with the support of the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and in collaboration with the Media Antenne Berlin-Brandenburg.

finwk11

This event brought together some fifty major industry actors from Europe and North America, including senior producers, international sales agents (Memento Films, Films Distribution, The Match Factory, The Coproduction Office,…), distributors (Soda Pictures, TF1 International, MK2), and television and fund representatives (Michel Reilhac for Arte, Roberto Olla for Eurimages, Kirsten Niehuus for the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Simon Perry for the Irish Film Board…), to discuss the feature film projects brought to the workshop by the 16 new members of the ACE Network.

20producers_en

Each of the 16 projects selected for the Workshop was subject to in-depth analysis and discussion during individual meetings, case studies, plenary sessions on financing, and confronted by the market and its new tendencies in terms of production and distribution.
In order to celebrate their new partnership, ACE and the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg organised an afternoon open to producers from the region, followed by a “networking” dinner. The guests were invited to participate in a session on the North American Market and an exclusive interview of Martin Moszkowicz (Constantin Film), by the ACE Vice-president, Jens Meurer.

finwk12_en

This workshop, the second organised by ACE in Potsdam with the support of the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, inaugurates the long-term collaboration with the region, and will, therefore, offer its producers a new professional meeting with a European dimension.

ACE Forum in London - October 17th, 2008: “Stop the sky falling! - Successful Business Models for Independent Producers”

photos-ace-londres-copier.png
Chaired by Terry Ilott (Cass Business School), Simon Perry (ACE / Irish Film Board) & Richard Holmes (Big Rich)

The world is changing.  The old business model that has guided independent film production in the UK for more than twenty years appears to have finally broken down.  Does the online, digital universe offer the prospect of a new business model for production?  Could there be other new models emerging in the spaces between analogue and digital, between production and consumption, and/or between film and other media? The ACE producers’ forum will tackle these issues head on.  Business models will be defined, case studies from the UK and continental Europe will be presented and a panel discussion will explore the options in depth.

Thanks to our speakers Justin Marciano (Revolver), Paul Trijbits (Ruby Films), Cavan Ash (Slingshot Studios), Simon Bosanquet (Generator Entertainment), Stewart Till (Stadium Entertainment), Nigel Thomas (Matador Pictures), Cameron Mc Cracken (Pathé), Julie Baines (Dan Films), Ed Guiney (Element Pictures, IE), Juan Gordon (Morena Films, ES), Jani Thilges (Samsa Films, Luxembourg), Andro Steinborn (X-Filme International, DE), Joergen Ramskov (Nimbus, DK) for their invaluable collaboration !
